The app does the rest

Cut mode gives the fence setting for every cut in order. Add boards, grain direction, prices and a shopping list, save projects and print a PDF.

How to use the calculator

  1. Enter the sheet size. Measure it or ask the supplier, because not every panel is the size on the label.
  2. Enter the blade kerf. It is usually printed on the blade. Here is how to measure yours.
  3. List your parts with finished sizes and quantities. The cut list guide shows how to get those sizes from a sketch.
  4. Read the layout and sheet count. The plan updates as you type and shows the waste too.

Common questions

Does it allow for saw kerf?

Yes, between all parts. Set it to 0 and it plans with no kerf, which will not work out in the shop.

How do I allow for edge trim?

Enter the sheet smaller by the trim. With 1/2" off every edge, 96 × 48" becomes 95 × 47". In the app, edge trim is its own setting.

Does it handle grain direction?

No. The calculator may turn any part, so treat its result as the minimum if parts have to follow the grain. The app can lock direction per part. Here is when that matters.

Can I actually cut the layout with a saw?

Yes. Layouts are made of straight through-cuts, the kind a table saw or track saw makes. Here is how to choose the order.

Is it free, and is my data sent anywhere?

It is free and needs no account. It runs in your browser, and your sizes are not sent anywhere.
